CSI: Miami CSI Miami DVD is actually just as watchable as the Vegas version, although the characters are somehow less likeable (although that may be because we've known Grissom, Catherine et al for 5 years and Caine, Duquesne et al for just 2 or 3). David Caruso's Horatio Caine in particular is spectacularly unpleasant, and seems possessed of an ego that threatens to drown out everyone else..The Simpsons DVD. whether this is a specific character trait, or Caruso himself (no tiny ego at work there, methinks) is unclear. The other characters seem to start off as blueprints of established Vegas faces: Eric Delko is similar to Warrick Brown (even down to the huge pecs), Speedle takes the mouthy Sara role, coroner Alexx has the measured manner of Dr Robbins Grey's Anatomy DVD down pat, and Megan Donner was clearly meant to be the Catherine Willows of the series... unfortunately she lasts less than 12 episodes before actress Kim Delaney left under a "lack of chemistry" cloud. Having seen the early episodes of season 1 again recently, I would argue that chemistry is the least of her problems - for whatever reason (and in NYPD Blue she was very good) she is appalling in this show. Pretty Little Liars DVD CSI is many things but gritty and downbeat it is not - unlike NYPD Blue - and I feel that Delaney's style did not fit with the glossy, Bruckheimer feel of CSI Miami. CSI is a great format and could theoretically be expanded to any city in America - or even the world - and would work, provided three constants are maintained: interesting casting, NCIS DVD quality writing, and use of recognisable locations. So we could look forward to CSI: Tokyo, CSI: Dubai or even CSI: Doncaster (perhaps not).
