part 1
I love you.
These words kept on playing over and over in Haley James Scott's head while she was waiting for help. Nathan had jumped into the water more than nine minutes ago to save his uncle and Rachel. Haley knew that if... if you were under water for more than nine minutes without any breathing equpement for under water, chances were, you'd be dead within that time frame.
Haley was still sobbing, especially when she saw the bracelet Nathan had given her on their first tutoring session together float up above the water. A car pulled up and she heard a car door open and close.
"Are you ok?" A guy her age asked her.
"My husband and his uncle are down there.. I'm afraid because they might be dead now. It's been longer than nine minutes since they went under!" Haley said breathlessly.
"Were they drunk?" Haley looked at the guy more closely. There was something arrogant about him... wait, what was she thinking at a time like this? Her husband could be dead!
"Don't just stand around!" The mother of the son yelled at them.
"We have lives to save here...you! What's your name?" She barked at Haley.
"Haley James... Scott," She answered, blinking back the tears.
"Travis Cullen," The guy said, while his mom glared again at them.
"Haley, go to my car and my cell phone is on my car seat... dial 911!" She then turned to Travis and gave him instructions and he nodded and took off.
Haley walked over to the car and tried the cell phone, but the battery was dead.
"Fate is working against us," She managed to say when she walked over to Travis's mother.
Travis's mother looked grim.
The parameds came shortly after that. Haley managed to call them after finding Travis's cell phone, which they both thought was back at home.
It seemed like hours before they finally got Cooper and Nathan out. Haley blinked, remembering that Rachel was there too. The whole thing was her fault!
Haley kept replaying the image of the accident in her mind and vagely remembered seeing the redheaded girl. She had sounded like she was drunk at the wedding too, thus the reason why she stole the limo in the first place.
Hours later, Lucas Scott and Karen Roe, his mother, rushed into the hospital to the waiting room. Haley had just recieve some bad news from the doctor who was operating on the three.
Haley put her hand on her head and started crying again.
Lucas rushed over to her and said, "Hey, hey, what's going on? Everything's going to be ok."
Travis told him about the accident after coming back from giving his report of what happened.
Lucas gave Haley a sympathetic look.
"What did the doctor tell you?"
"Rachel's awake but fine.. Cooper's still out... and Nathan.. he might not make it.. if he does, he'll be in critical condition."
Karen hugged Haley tightly while she started sobbing again.
"He'll make it... Nathan's strong," Karen murmured, stroking her hair, trying to soothe her.
"Everything was perfect before the whole thing started... now it might never be the same again."
"Haley James Scott?" A member of the FBI asked.
"The police have their reasons to question you.. we've been tipped off that you might be the cause of the accident." Karen gasped.
"How dare you say such a thing! They just remarried! Can't you tell by their attire? Really, you have no idea who you are dealing with!" The officer sighed.
"We have a witness of what happened ma'am. We're only going to take her down to the police station for questioning. Haley looked at Karen.
She shrugged her shoulders and said, "Sorry Hales. You'll have to do what they want." Haley blinked back tears. She wasn't like Dan, who had murdered his own brother because he thought he had tried killing him a year ago.
*The questioning*
"Haley James Scott, the finger has been pointed at you for the accident of Nathan Lee Scott, Rachel, and Cooper Scott."
"How do you know of this? Where did you get your information from?" The investigatory police officer shrugged his shoulders.
"You will only speak when spoken to," He replied cooly.
Haley cringed, already not liking him from the start.
"If this were an actual trial, how would you plead?" The officer inquired.
What kind of questioning was this?
"Innocent," Haley muttered through gritted teeth.
